Obituary

William Leslie Bass, Jr., age 70, passed away on May 25, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Born on May 31, 1955, in Nashville, Tennessee, William was the son of the late William Leslie Bass and Dorothy Crain Bass.

William was a natural creative spirit who expressed himself deeply through both art and music. Gifted with a remarkable talent for the guitar and drums, he poured his life experiences into his songwriting, creating music that resonated with the hearts and souls of many. The trials and tribulations he endured throughout his life became woven into the stories he told through song, allowing others to find comfort, understanding, and connection in his words. His talent and authenticity led him to sell numerous songs to respected artists, including Jelly Roll, leaving behind a lasting mark through his music.

Those who knew William understood that beneath his gruff exterior was a man who always spoke his mind and told it exactly how it was. Yet behind that rough-around-the-edges nature was a deeply kind soul who loved fiercely and remained loyal to the people closest to him. He shared his heart most openly with those he loved, and his presence, humor, creativity, and honesty will be missed dearly.

William is survived by his sister, Jeanna Bass (John) Freeman; sons, Jonathan Aaron (Brittany) Bailey and William Zachary Bailey; grandchildren, Braxton Bailey, Brooklin Bailey, and Alyson Brown; as well as many close friends who cherished his friendship and the memories they shared together.

William’s legacy will live on through the music he created, the lives he touched, and the family and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
