Obituary

Sharon Diane Reid Sommer of Murfreesboro, TN passed away on February 23^rd, 2021 due to complications of COVID-19 virus. Sharon was born on January 9^th, 1942 to Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Leroy Reid in Springfield, IL.

After graduating high school, Sharon met James “Jim” Richard Sommer and was instantly swept off her feet. They both knew they couldn’t live without one another and got married on September 23rd, 1960, and cherished their love for 60 years and beyond. Shortly after the wedding bells, Sharon and Jim started their family in Springfield, having a girl and two boys.

Sharon worked for the State of Illinois Department of Health until the birth of their daughter, Jamie Lynn Sommer Thean. Sharon then devoted her time to her children: Jamie Lynn Sommer, Richard Allen Sommer, Brian David Sommer, and her beloved “Jim”.

Sharon moved to Murfreesboro, TN when Jim had to relocate for work in the ’90s. After Jim’s retirement in 2008, Sharon and Jim enjoyed having the freedom to travel, enjoy their time together, and treasure their time with their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

She is survived by her daughter: Jamie Lynn Sommer (Jeff) Thean of Minooka IL.; sons: Richard Allen Sommer of Murfreesboro, TN., Brian David (Penny Jean) Sommer of Athens, IL.; grandkids: Courtney R. Sommer, Chelsea A. Thean, Lacey N. (Matt Housman) Thean, Faydra B. Sommer (Troy) Minton, Haley L. Thean, Kendra A. Sommer (Kyle) Gathman, Audra N. Sommer, Riley A. Thean, Alexandra L. Sommer; great-grandkids: Mateo, Natalia, Vada, Teegan, Giselle, Kannon, Kobyn, Kyson, Collen, Kollins; sisters: Margaret Reid Bass, Carolyn Reid; brothers: Jesse (Donna) Reid, James Reid, Vernon Reid, Ronnie Reid; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband: James R. Sommer; parents: Jesse Leroy Reid and Mary Clayton; sisters: Josephine Reid Wright, Dorthy Reid Staten, Joanne Reid; and brothers: Lester Reid, and Albert Reid.
