Robert L.
Boynton, Jr.
October 21, 1942 – May 19, 2026
Robert L. Boynton, Jr., age 83, passed away in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born in Brunswick, Georgia, to the late Robert L. Boynton, Sr. and Mildred Ruth Westbrook Boynton.
As soon as Robert graduated high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, answering a calling to serve his country and beginning a life that would take him farther than most could ever imagine. His military career led him into the extraordinary world of aerial photography, capturing one-of-a-kind photographs from angles only very few of us have the opportunity to experience. Robert carried tremendous stories from his years of service, stories of being suspended from a harness out of a helicopter as he was flown over raging seas scouting down submarines below. Those moments were not only thrilling, but a reflection of the courage and dedication he carried throughout his life.
His service and photography allowed him to travel all over the world, spanning from New Zealand, Sicily, Bermuda, and Hawaii, all the way to Antarctica. Through the lens of his camera, Robert’s photographs could tell stories in ways conversation never could, preserving both adventure and history in a single frame. For his family, those photographs will forever remain a treasure trove of moments captured in time, pieces of Robert’s remarkable journey and the legacy he leaves behind.
While Robert experienced so much of the world, the greatest part of his life was the love of his family. He leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years, Betty Kale Boynton; their children, Victor (Donna) Boynton, James (Beth) Griffith, and Angela (Billy) Towe; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind close and cherished friends, Michael and Ann Brzezicki.
Robert lived a life filled with service, adventure, storytelling, and love. His family will forever cherish the memories he shared, the stories only he could tell, and the incredible life he so beautifully lived.
