Opal Maidean Barnes was born April 11, 1924 in Fayetteville, TN to Richard and Viola Barnes. She passed away on February 8, 2014 in Murfreesboro, TN. She relocated to Nashville TN in 1942 after the untimely death of her 1st husband James Bradford, where she lived out the remainder of her life. She met and married Gilbert Humphreys and they moved to a 40 acre farm in Ashland City, TN and produced a bounty of wonderful harvest until his passing. She also retired from May Hoisery Mills of Nashville TN and worked both farm and factory together. She was an incredible woman and taught her entire family the meaning of a hard day’s labor and the TRUE meaning of southern cooking. After returning to Nashville she later met and married Elmore Johnson and they had several wonderful years together. Opal was a devoted wife, Mother and Grandmother. She was a very dear friend to many and would help anyone in need. She was a long time member of the Antioch First Baptist Church and loved her family there. She sponsored several charities such as St Jude children’s hospital, Vanderbilt children’s hospital, and numerous missions. She was however most passionate about our military and supported them her entire adult life. She will be greatly missed and remain forever in each of our hearts She was preceeded in death by spouses James Bradford, Gilbert Humphreys, and Elmore Johnson. She is survived by son James Bradford Shirley and daughter Thelma Gale Ridings. Grandchildren Bobby Taylor, Melanie Daniels David, Christie Boshers, Steve Bradford Lee Ann, Jimmy Bradford Beva, and Melissa Trejo. Great grandchildren Ronnie Boshers Jr fiancé Jacy Wallace, Ashley Boshers fiancé Daniel Peters, Chelsea Dany, Candice Miser Jeremy, Lyndsey Dwyer Jessey, Reagan Trejo, William Willie Bradford, and Allison Matthews. Great, great grandchildren Collin C.J. Colbie Jewels, and Bryson. Step children George Humphreys Glenda, Pat Reed, Carolyn Vickers. Step grandchildren Steve Humphreys Kim, Cindy Perry Steve, Connie Barnett David, Michael Taylor Lisa Sherry Lackey, Kim Baker Billy, DeDe Murrah Billy and Tammy Majors. Great step grandchildren Mary Lisa, Grant, Parker, Austin, Taylor, Chelsea, Jordan, Zack, Jennifer, Adam, Ethan, Justin, Alaina,, Dustin, Chad, Hailey and Kaitlin. A very special mention: Lisa Wilson Michon a true friend and granddaughter in heart and her future great grandson, 2nd Class Petty Officer Daniel Travis Peters who is currently serving in Afghanistan for this great country. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 15, at 2:00 P.M. at Antioch First Baptist Church, 2601 Una Antioch Pike, Antioch, TN. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until service time at the church. Pallbearers are: David Daniels, Ronnie Boshers, Jason Michon, William Bill Nokes, Kevin Sherrill, and Bob Regis.
