I will miss my Uncle Mel greatly. I was glad I able to attend the California Memorial with my spouse Betty, my Mom, brother Steve, Sister in Law Dianne, nephew Chris and Megan, his wife. It was a beautiful tribute with flowers, the photo from the novel he wrote, music and the wonderful photo slide-show. Royce gave a marvelous remembrance, along with Marilee and Del Harbor and a few others. I remember Uncle Mel behind the camera most of the time, using his light meter to ensure proper settings. He was always cheerfully helping with the laborious major home improvement projects with my Dad. Royce told me he wired the back shop. I especially remember during our 1965 visit to Connecticut, he took us to New York to the World’s Fair and Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. I will never forget the 4th of July barbeques and cranking that ice cream maker. He was dearly loved by all of the Chapman Family.
