Margaret “Peggy” E. Johnson

Margaret Elizabeth “Peggy” Johnson, 77, of Tullahoma, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 3, 2015, with her family by her side. She was a member of the church of Christ at Cedar Lane. Known as “Meme” to her family and friends, she will always be remembered for putting others before herself. Although tiny and frail, she gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.

Mrs. Johnson was born October 6, 1937, in Greensburg, Ohio, to Lawrence and Helen Stone. As a girl, she lived on a farm and even helped her mom run the farm while her father was away serving in World War II. Peggy attended Green High School in Greensburg, Ohio, and then married Brad, her junior high school sweetheart. As they traveled the globe during his 29-year Air Force career, Peggy regularly took in special needs children to give their families a break, all while raising her own three children. She worked in a variety of social service positions, always focused on making life better for the less fortunate.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be remembered for making Christmas time extra special for her family. She also loved going to thrift stores and flea markets, and had a knack for finding interesting and thoughtful gifts for her loved ones.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by Brad, her husband of 56 years; brother, Phillip Stone; 3 children: Ellen Maddux, Stacy Clayton, and Steve Johnson; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
