Ingrid Margarete Foxall

Our beautiful and precious mother, Ingrid Margarete Foxall, sadly passed away at the age of 83 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on September 14, 2023.  She was so loved by family and friends, and her presence leaves a great void.

Ingrid was born in Berlin, Germany, to Alfred Kurt Meusel and Ursula Edith Meusel, then moved to the United States after becoming an “Army Bride”. She raised two daughters and two sons in Germany, Hawaii, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee.

She was a woman of extremely good taste, loved people and entertaining, and was a perfect hostess for birthdays, holidays, and impromptu get-togethers.  She enjoyed having people visit for a delicious homemade meal and a glass or two of wine!  She was fluent in German, of course, as well as Spanish and French, and worked as a language interpreter for several companies earlier in her career.  Moving frequently as a military bride, she made every place the family moved into a “home”, whether on or off base.

Later in her life, she met and married her true love, Jude Foxall, and they shared thirty years together.  With Jude, she gained a larger family!  Ingrid grieved so much over losing her beloved husband in March of this year.

She lived a full life, and was still keen on keeping herself physically fit although her health had been failing during the last few years.  She was definitely the queen of walker fitness!  At the age of 60, she decided to take horse riding lessons to “come out of her shell”, and she certainly accomplished that goal!  Her horses, Gracie and Cowboy (now deceased), and Duke helped give her much needed confidence, and she had a loving and close connection with each of them.  Ingrid competed in a number of horse shows over the years, winning several ribbons, much to her surprise!  She doted on Duke, providing him the best in nutrition and supplements, spent many hours grazing him on his favorite clover and tender grass shoots, and he was spoiled by the huge bowl of fresh fruit salad she brought to him every day. She would have boarded him in her back yard if she could!  Ingrid made many friends through her passion for these beautiful and intelligent animals.

Although Ingrid is in her wonderful, heavenly home now, that does not keep us from missing her here – her children Irene (Chuck) Gruter, Curtis (Karen) Untalan, Sylvia Huron, Jason Stallings; grandchildren Ryan Untalan, Ian Huron, Erin (Tripp) Shaw, Hunter (Morgan) Gruter, Morgan Gruter; great granddaughter Edie Shaw; brother Harold (Barbara) Meusel, and niece Carola (Ellis) Bowers; her extended family with Jude – Laura Foxall, Sandy (Stan) Turner, Susan Haymes, Mark Foxall, and Beth Caron; grandchildren Maggie Foxall, Rebekah Haymes, Mariah Turner, and Desiree (Ken) Linder; and her dearest friends Barbara Bell, Ute Jones, and Inge Lockhart.

The Ascension Live At Home program and the staff at the Ascension Health Care Center on Signal Mountain provided exceptional care for Ingrid.  A heart-felt thank you is extended to all of the staff and her fellow fifth floor residents for their care, patience, and friendship – it will forever be remembered.

A mass will be held for Ingrid on Saturday, October 28, at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee.  Visitation is scheduled prior to the mass in the Narthex of the church at 10 a.m.
