Obituary

Charles William “Bill” Junker, age 83, died peacefully at home on June 8, 2011 with his wife of 60 years, Patsy Hillman Junker and their children, Jennifer Junker White, Gretchen Junker Byars and Kurt Hillman Junker at his side. He is additionally survived by eight adoring grandchildren and his children-in-law, Kreis White, Steven Byars and Jennifer Schaffel Junker. Preceded in death by his parents, Walter H. and Fay T. Junker, he was born in Wichita Falls, Texas and graduated from Vanderbilt University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He enjoyed a long career as an editor, author, campus minister and religious communicator with the Baptist Sunday School Board and the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board. Active in retirement, he was an ardent gardener and landscaper, dedicated grandfather and an engaging leader and mentor to many involved in the Tennessee Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and at Glendale Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at Glendale Baptist Church, 1021 Glendale Lane, Nashville, TN 37204 at 2:00 p.m. on June 11, 2011. In lieu of flowers the family requests that gifts in Mr. Junker’s honor be made to Glendale Baptist Church or the Cheekwood Botanical Garden, 1200 Forrest Park Drive, Nashville, TN 37205.
